This recipe for French Dips with Homemade Au Jus will make you forget the store bought stuff. All that’s needed are a few simple ingredients and a bit of heat to give the perfect flavor!

Ingredient List

  • 4 thin sliced ribeye steak
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 long hoagie rolls
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

AU JUS RECIPE French Dips with Homemade Au Jus

This delicious dish starts with a simple Au Jus sauce made from a few simple ingredients. To make the Au Jus, heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the garlic, salt and pepper and sauté for one minute. Add the flour and tomato paste and mix until everything is well combined. Slowly stir in the beef broth and bring to a boil. Simmer for 10 minutes or until the sauce has thickened. Add the butter and stir until well combined.

Prior to making the sandwiches, season the ribeye steak with salt and pepper. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and cook the steak for 4 to 5 minutes per side or until desired doneness. Once cooked, cut and shred the steak.

Heat a second skillet over medium-low heat. Place the rolls in the skillet and toast until lightly browned and crisp. Place the shredded steak on top of the rolls and top with the cheese. Place the pan with the rolls in the oven at 350°F for a few minutes to melt the cheese.

Spoon the Au Jus over the sandwiches and serve immediately.
