  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon 5-spice powder
  • 1/2 cup soy milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the onion, garlic, and ginger and sauté for 2-3 minutes until the onion is translucent.
  2. Add the red bell pepper, shiitake mushrooms, savoy cabbage, and carrot to the skillet. Cook for an additional 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are tender.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, cilantro, 5-spice powder, salt, and pepper. Pour the mixture over the vegetables and stir to combine.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, baking soda, sugar, and 5-spice powder. In another bowl, whisk together the soy milk, water, and vegetable oil. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  5. Heat the 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium heat. Drop the batter by spoonfuls into the skillet and cook until bubbles appear on the surface, about 2-3 minutes. Flip and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until golden brown.
